Caribbean Cruises: Three Basic Itineraries
The typical 7-day Eastern Caribbean cruise itinerary departs from Florida and can include three or four ports of call in the Bahamas, San Juan, PR and the U.S. Virgin Islands (St. Thomas).
The 7-day Western Caribbean cruise itinerary also departs from Florida and includes three or four ports of call, usually in Jamaica, Grand Cayman and the Mayan Riviera coast of Mexico (Cancun, Cozumel and/or Costa Maya).
The Southern Caribbean cruise itinerary, or Deep Caribbean, often departs from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and includes islands further south like Barbados, Martinique, Curacao and/or Aruba. From the USA, airfare is a bit higher flying to San Juan, but the itinerary, which can also range from 7- to 14-days, reaches to more exotic and compelling island choices.
Private Islands
Some of the larger cruise lines offer their own day on a private island as part of their Caribbean cruise itineraries. These include Disney Cruises, Holland America, Royal Caribbean and Princess Cruises. These are often a highlight, allowing guests to enjoy the island to themselves, and most offer activities, from horsebackriding to wave riders.
