The well-established Spanish hotel chain, Iberostar, launched its first riverboat, the Iberostar Grand Amazon in 2005. The deluxe vessel offers all the expected comforts while offering travelers an exotic three-, four- or seven- night Amazon River cruise adventure. Read more about Amazon river cruises.
During the Amazon cruise, guests can enjoy rain forest hikes, swimming with pink dolphins, piranha fishing, bird viewing and nighttime boat trips to view noctural animals. The vessel carries four launches to explore smaller jungle streams.
The expedition cruise staff onboard is knowledgeable on the flora and fauna, accompanies guests on all excursions, and conducts lectures onboard. Visits are also made to local villages where guests can meet indigenous tribes and purchase local crafts.
Accommodations
Iberostar Grand Amazon features 72 air-conditioned veranda staterooms of 240 square feet. Furnishings include queen or twin beds, TVs, and bathrooms feature glass-enclosed showers. Two suites are 500 square feet and include separate bedroom and living areas and larger verandas.
Dining Onboard
Single seating dining includes buffet breakfast and lunch, and sit-down or buffet dinner featuring Brazilian or internationl cuisine. Known for the all-inclusive hotel product, Iberostar Grand Amazon includes land excursions, wine at lunch and dinner and bar drinks. A special occasion meal under the stars can also be arranged.
While the majority of guests have been Spanish-speaking or from Europe, Americans are starting to increase in number, and staff onboard study English to improve their language skills.
