Sometimes referred to as the biggest cruise line Americans still haven't heard of, MSC Cruises has quietly been expanding its operation from Europe to the United States. MSC Cruises, whose godmother is Sophia Loren, now has eight ships in its fleet, including newly built vessels, with four more scheduled for delivery.

What makes MSC Cruises different
MSC has retained some of the European traditions and niceties that some other cruise lines have given up on. These include being greeted by staff upon embarking the ship and being escorted to your stateroom. It includes white-gloved service. There is a respect for guests so that announcements are not broadcast on board.

The cruise line has also invested in cuisine, which is of premium quality featuring Mediterranean cooking; and entertaiment, which has an international flavor given a broad mix of international passengers onboard. And the ships reflect the Italian design of their heritage.

In fact, Americans are presently a minority onboard MSC European cruises, but a majority on cruises closer to the USA, such as Caribbean itineraries. Otherwise, the diverse complement of guests includes Italians, Germans, English and Spanish.

MSC Cruises is also noted for a Kids Cruise Free program, as well as a number of theme cruises.
MSC Cruises introduces butler service
Imagine your trip being made extra special by the service of a butler who looks after you, turning your cruise into a truly unforgettable experience. This will become a reality on board MSC Fantasia and sister ship MSC Splendida, which join the MSC fleet in November 2008 and spring 2009 respectively, marking the beginning of a new concept for MSC Cruises.

MSC's personalized Butler Service will provide check-in assistance, transport luggage and upon request, unpack and organize personal belongings and stock your suite with fine wines, liquors, champagnes and cigars. In your suite, your butler will be more than happy to serve you a traditional English tea or a gourmet meal and even organize small party for you and your guests. Reservations for spa treatments, shore excursions and restaurant dining are just a request away.
New VIP area onboard
The upcoming MSC Fantasia & MSC Splendida are the first ships in the fleet to have an exclusive VIP area. On board MSC Fantasia this will be called the MSC Yacht Club and will consist of 99 spacious suites. Other reserved areas will include a bar, solarium, 2 Jacuzzis, 1 pool with a sky dome, an observation lounge with bar and concierge plus a magnificent panoramic view and 24/7 Butler Service, with one butler for every five suites.
